Former Netstal UK managing director Nigel Baker has joined BMB, an Italian injection moulding machine manufacturer, to head up the company’s operation in the UK and Ireland.
Baker left Netstal last month after its parent company KraussMaffei (KM) merged the firm with KM’s UK operation and appointed KM UK boss Mike Bate to head the newly-combined business.
Speaking about his new role as BMB Plastics Machinery managing director, Baker told PRW : “We really want to make our mark in the UK and Ireland.
“This is a great opportunity. I’m really excited to have found something that is comparable to the high performance machinery which I’ve worked with in the past.”
Baker said his appointment followed a recent two-day visit to BMB’s facility in Brescia, near Lake Garda in northern Italy.
BMB makes 300 machines a year, according to Baker, and wanted to establish a strong sales and service network in the UK and Ireland.
“It already has 150 machines installed in the UK, mainly in packaging, but also medical, PET, caps and closures and automotive.
“We’re looking at a step-by-step penetration of the UK and Ireland and we’re keen to show what we can do,” he added.
Baker said he was already attracting order interest from processors in the North West of England and Scotland and the firm had recently delivered a 700 tonne machine to a customer.
He added he was looking to recruit two new members of staff, including a service engineer, to add to the company’s existing sales representative and to boost the company’s service and support capabilities.
Baker said he hoped to move into new offices in the Stafford area in the near future, and Stewart Leng, the company's regional sales manager, is to stay onboard.
"Stewart will complement and support the BMB team when we start our recruitment phase," said Baker.
