Extrusion

A North East plant making vinyl flooring for the residential market is set to close up after a fall off in demand. Armstrong World Industries has entered into a 90 day consultation period with workers at the plant in Thornaby on Teesside. A total of 160 staff work at the plant. 23 August 2010

Netherlands-based plastic pipe supplier Wavin has reported Q2 revenue up 8.7% over 2009 to €348.7 million, a like-for-like increase of 5.4%. A spokesman described this as “solid revenue growth following nine consecutive quarters of year-on-year decline”. 17 August 2010

Marshall-Tufflex, the electrical cable and connectors company with in-house extrusion and injection moulding facilities, is involved in a major redevelopment of BBC Broadcasting House which is nearing completion. 6 August 2010

Germany-based pipe corrugating equipment maker Unicor has developed a new system for manufacture of flat-bottom “tunnel” plastics drainage pipes at up to twice current production rates. 15 July 2010

A fire at Wavin’s plant near Durham has destroyed some 40 tonnes of plastic piping stored at the factory along with 15 tonnes of wooden pallets, according to local media reports. 12 July 2010

Winsford-based Britton Taco, which manufactures flexible plastics and polythene film packaging products, has invested around €2m in a new production line. 8 July 2010

Davis-Standard is interested in buying the assets of Gloucester Engineering – a development that could complicate Gloucester’s plan to voluntarily reorganise under Chapter 11 of the US Bankruptcy Code. 1 July 2010

Polish plastics pipe producer KNG Awans is investing in a new multi-layer polyethylene pipe extrusion line to allow it to improve efficiency and raise capacity. 26 May 2010

According to recent media reports, a three-way bidding war has broken out for control of Pactiv Corp., the major packaging thermoformer and film extruder, with consumer products including Hefty trash bags. 20 May 2010

Austria-headquartered Pipelife has agreed to buy Swedish pipe maker Westpipe for an undisclosed sum. 11 May 2010

Netherlands-based plastic pipe systems supplier Wavin has reported a Q1 revenue of €245m, 2% down on 2009; this is a like-for-like 5% drop. 28 April 2010

Leading Polish PVC profile, window and door manufacturer Dobroplast is expanding production with plans for a new plant in the industrial zone of Lublin, Poland. 27 April 2010
