Electronics contract manufacturing forecast to grow

BCC Research of the US is expecting the global market for electronics contract manufacturing and design services to grow this year and in the next five years. Many of the international companies in the sector have in-house plastics manufacturing operations.
According to BCC’s new technical market research report, the global market for electronics contract manufacturing was worth $321bn in 2008. This is expected to increase to over $345bn in 2009 and will show a compound annual growth rate of 8.5% taking the market to $519bn in 2014.
The BCC report analyses the market broken down into the application segments of computers and telecommunication, consumer and industrial electronics, and others.
Computers and telecommunications have the largest share of the market, generating $207bn in 2008 and an estimated $225bn in 2009. BCC forecasts this to reach $352bn in 2014, at an annual growth rate of 9.4%.
Consumer and industrial electronics were worth $92bn in 2008 and will rise to an estimated $96.5bn in 2009. This segment is expected to increase at 7.2% annually to reach $136.7bn in 2014.
The other application segments generated $22bn. This should increase to $23.5bn in 2009 and $30.3bn in 2014, at an annual rate of 5.2%, says BCC.
The research group notes that electronic contract manufacturers are serving a growing range of product markets. These include: personal computers and servers; Internet routers and switching gear; communications equipment (especially mobile phones); consumer products such as computer game or television sets; industrial and automotive electronics; and also space and aircraft electronics.
