JKN Polymers has lucky escape from mystery blaze

By Anthony Clark
Posted 24 July 2012

A major fire at Hull-based JKN Polymers required 60 fire fighters to tackle it but despite its ferocity no damage was done to the facility.

Classified as “a fire in the open” its flames leaped upwards of 40 metres but the only real damage was to a wind turbine near the Sutton Fields Industrial Estate that has been blackened by smoke.

The cause of the fire, which started in the early hours of the morning, has yet to be determined.

Chief fire officer Richard Hannigan for Humberside Fire & Rescue Services Richard Hannigan told the BBC: “We're now into the investigation phase of the incident to try and discover the cause of the fire. We want to prevent this happening again.”

PRW has contacted JKN Polymers but the company hasn’t commented on the blaze.
