Help Cogent shape the qualifications for the plastics industry

Qualifications are a vital aspect of demonstrating workforce competence and developing employees so they make the maximum contribution to the business. Cogent, the national skills council for the plastics industry, is currently reviewing the sector’s National Occupational Standards (NOS) and competency based qualifications.

It is doing this in close consultation with employers, as part of its role in setting standards and designing qualifications right across all parts of the industry. Now Cogent is providing the opportunity for employers to have their say in the best way to upskill employees.

A rapid response questionnaire is available on the Cogent website at: www.cogent-ssc.com/general/news/polyconsult.php

John Goff, operations director G&A Moulding Technology, is urging employers to have their say in the project: “G&A believes it is vitally important that the UK industry gets involved and supports the new competency based qualifications as we move forwards out of this current economic cycle. If training is not now treated as a vital tool, there’ll be a shortfall in knowledge of injection moulding technology.

“Such training ultimately saves downtime and scrap, results in energy savings and safeguards future jobs, by reducing the costs to customers. By investing in the workforce now, companies will be in a stronger position for the future and strengthen the future of the plastics industry in the UK.”
