The British Plastics Federation (BPF) has announced that the BPF Recycling Council (BPFRC) is to be fully integrated into the Federation as from 1 January 2011. It will also take on a new identity, the BPF Recycling Group, and will be a fully fledged business group within the Federation's structure.

Members of the Recycling Council voted unanimously for this change at their annual general meeting held in Grantham on 7 July. This move was endorsed by the BPF Council meeting in London the following day.

Recycling Council chairman, Mark Burstall, said: "The Recycling Council feels confident that the BPF's and the Recycling Council's policies are well aligned and there are major opportunities for the Council to broaden its offering to potential members."

BPF president Paul Jukes added: "Strategically this is an excellent move for the BPF since recycling is a hugely important activity for our industry and underpins our sustainability credentials. It represents significant growth of the BPF's membership base and will enable the BPF to speak with full confidence on recycling issues and to represent fully all aspects of the polymer supply chain."
