Ron Marsh honoured for his services to plastics

The British Plastics Federation (BPF) has honoured Ron Marsh, chief executive of RPC Group, with its Gold Medal for distinguished service to the plastics industry and the BPF.
BPF president Philip Watkins, speaking at the federation’s annual dinner, said: “Ron Marsh was once a graduate trainee at Metal Box at its Speke factory and over fifteen years rose to become plant manager. He moved to Reedpack and was the prime mover in the management buyout of RPC from Svenska Cellulosa in March 1991.
“At the time, RPC had five sites and 1,000 employees. Today it has 51 sites with subsidiaries in 11 states of the European Union. Today RPC has 7,000 employees, including 2,000 in the UK. Revenue in 2010/11 was £781m. RPC is Europe’s leading manufacturer of rigid plastic packaging.
In 2006 he was named ‘Chief Executive of the Year’ at the Packaging Awards ceremony, Watkins continued, adding: “Ron has been an inspirational leader in the Plastics industry.”
