BASF dissolves plastics division in shakeup

By PRW Staff
Posted 6 November 2012

BASF is “optimising its organisational structure” to better serve its customer industries and enhance its “operational and technology excellence”.

The move will see the company cut the number of its department from 15 to 14 although a new division, ‘performance materials’, will be created in BASF’s ‘functional solutions’ segment, which will be renamed ‘functional materials and solutions’.

“The scope of skills and knowhow that we combine under one roof is what sets us apart from our competitors,” said chairman Dr Kurt Bock.

“In the new organisation, the bundling of product groups with the same business model will help management to better focus on the success factors necessary to be a market leader both in meeting customer’s needs and in operational excellence.”

The newly created ‘performance materials’ division will take BASF’s downstream plastics from the current ‘performance polymers’ and ‘polyurethanes’ divisions. The remaining activities of the current plastics division, which is being dissolved, will become part of the company’s chemicals segment.
