EEF Photography Award winners revealed

The winners of the EEF Photography Awards have been announced at a ceremony at the House of Commons in London.

Mike Smith's 'Precision'

More than 800 entries were submitted to the EEF – the manufacturers’ organisation – with wannabe David Baileys asked to reflect and champion the spirit of manufacturing in the UK. 87 photographs were shortlisted.

Winner in then professional category was Mike Smith’s ‘Precision’, a kaleidoscopic shot down self-contained hydrodynamic bearings, manufactured by Rolls Royce Michell in Newcastle-Upon-Tyne.

‘Manufacturing a Filter’ by Robert Watkins, from Warrington, was the winner of the amateur category: a black-and-white image of a welder applying the finishing touches to a filter at Crofts Engineering Services.

And the young photographer category also produced many photographs showcasing not only the best of domestic manufacturing but also budding photographers.

Tamika Morris’ photograph of the UK-manufactured golden Olympic Torch against a black-and-white audience was appropriately titled ‘2012 Icon’ and won the young photographer category.

Terry Scuoler, the EEF's chief executive, said: “We are delighted to see that the quantity and quality of the EEF Photography Awards has grown year on year.

"Manufacturing is exciting and constantly evolving, and we are proud of all of our entrants who have helped us redefine the public perception of manufacturing with their eclectic range of images.”

Nikki Paine, Marketing Manager at Canon UK – which co-sponsored the awards – said: “The ‘Made in Britain’ photography awards showcase the very best facets of British manufacturing through the power of image.
