Give PRN exemption to recyclate users, says Dow

Chris Dow, chief executive of Closed Loop Recycling, believes that more needs to be done to encourage brands, retailers and manufacturers to use recycled material.

“According to a new survey by the British Plastics Federation (BPF), plastics processors have indicated that unreliability of recyclate supply and client specifications are deterring the greater use of recycled polymers,” said Dow.

“What we think would benefit these brands and companies is for them to be exempt from the PRN obligation for the specific amount of recycled content they use in their packaging.

“This would act as a huge incentive for more companies to include recycled material, increasing demand for recyclate which in turn would provide a boost to the UK recycling industry,” he explained.
