Epro extends its hunt for Best Recycled Product
By PRW Staff Posted 27 June 2012
Organisers of a Europe-wide competition to find the best product made from recycled plastics has invited members of the public and manufacturers alike to submit their nominations.
The European Association of Plastics Recycling & Recovery Organisations (Epro) is extending its awards for Best Recycled Product Award and is seeking consumer nominations in an effort to spread the word about the viability of products using recycled plastic.
Epro spokesman Eirik Oland said the key objective of the competition was to raise awareness of the value and versatility of used plastics, “whether it be post-consumer or post-industrial, as well to highlight the opportunities to recycle material and recognise it as a valuable resource, not waste”.
Oland said his organisation hoped that by inviting members of the public to suggest products – a first time for the awards – “it will bring the everyday consumer closer to the competition and highlight new products that may not already have entered”.
As well as consumer-nominated products, Epro is once again looking for product manufacturer entries, with criteria for this award including:
-
Contain at least 50% post-consumer of post-industrial waste
-
Be a marketable product from the last two years
-
Proof of sustainability
-
Made in Europe
-
Be made of recycled used plastics packaging
The 2012 competition will be the fourth successive annual Best Recycled Product Award Epro has run.
The closing date for entries is 20 September, 2012, and full details on the awards can be found here.
