Chris Dow backs Labour’s revised recycling target

Chris Dow, CEO of Closed Loop Recycling, has backed Labour’s call for increased recycling targets for England.
Gavin Shuker MP, the party’s shadow waste minister, told delegates at the recent RWM show in Birmingham that Defra’s “unambitious” recycling targets for England needed to aligned with those of Scotland and Wales. “Aligning our recycling targets with the rest of the UK could create jobs and promote growth,” he said.
Dow responded: “We welcome the announcement by Labour’s Gavin Shuker MP that his party would look at realigning England’s recycling targets with those of Wales and Scotland, if elected in 2015.
“We are also interested in Labour proposals regarding the establishment of an Office of Resource Management.
“The wider enforcement of existing legislation in tandem with reform to the regulations around the PRN/PERN system will ensure a level playing field for UK reprocessors and greater certainty for the investment community, ultimately leading to the creation of thousands of new green jobs.”
