Irish Republic recognises 12 shades of green

Arvato Hightech beat off stiff competition to scoop the Best Member accolade at the 2012 Repak Recycling Awards, which took place yesterday (4 October) at Croke Park stadium, Dublin.

Arvato was recognised for its commitment to reducing packaging waste through its pioneering ‘Project Icarus’ initiative, which aimed to reduce packaging by 20%.

Hosting the awards was minister for the environment, community and local government, Phil Hogan TD, who welcomed attendees from more than 220 companies and stakeholders groups.

In total 12 awards were presented:

  • Repak Best Member (sponsored by Arthur Cox) – Arvato Hightech EMEA
  • Repak Best Packaging Prevention Initiative (sponsored by EPA Be green program) – Eircom Group (Meteor)
  • Repak Best Primary Schools (supported by An Taisce) – Scoil Ghobhnatan, Mallow, Co Cork,
  • Repak Best Secondary Schools (supported by An Taisce) – St. Mac Dara’s Community College, Templeogue, Dublin
  • Repak Best Practice in Retail - Independent Retailer – Ryans SuperValu, Glanmire, Co Cork
  • Repak Best WEEE Participating Local Authority – Galway County Council
  • Repak Best WEEE Corporate Collection Event – Apple
  • Repak Best Practice Hospitality (Sponsored by REHAB Glassco) – The River Lee Hotel, Cork
  • Repak Recovery Operator of the Year – Large Company (Sponsored by KPMG)  – Thorntons Recycling
