RPC throttles ahead with Kers-power

RPC Market Rasen has commissioned a new Wittmann Battenfeld EcoPower 300 injection moulding machine, which it will use to make a range of packaging products.
The Wittmann group has a long relationship with RPC although this is the Market Rasen site’s first EcoPower injection moulding machine. The chosen unit is a high-speed, fast cycling machine with 300 tons of clamping force.
Wittmann Battenfeld’s UK managing director, Barry Hill, added: “The hydraulic drive for ejector, nozzle and core pulls gives the moulder options. Having it integrated into the machine frame saves on the overall machine footprint and makes for an extremely energy efficient system.”
Since its launch, the EcoPower has steadily increased its international market share on the basis of compact design and large energy savings, according to the manufacturer. Market feedback suggests that these energy savings typically repay the owner at least 50% of the capital purchase price over the course of the machine lifetime.
The EcoPower deploys a kinetic energy recovery system (Kers) to achieve these savings – an approach derived from technology successfully developed on Formula cars.
