Staffordshire-based additive supplier Addmaster has been voted the People’s Choice for the first Made in Britain awards by readers of the Mail on Sunday.

The awards ceremony, which was held on 21 January at the impressive Institute of Directors (IOD) headquarters in London, attracted an impressive list of speakers included Business Secretary Vince Cable, ex-Dragons’ Den star James Caan and IOD director general Simon Walker.

Vince Cable praised the Financial Mail for celebrating SMEs and British manufacturing. “There is far too much negativity about manufacturing, with people focusing only on the bad news stories. It is time we celebrate those firms that are growing and thriving and who will be the manufacturing companies of the future as well as the here and now,” he said.

“The idea that Britain does not manufacture is a ‘myth’. These awards are a fantastic demonstration of that and of the talent that so clearly exists in this sector.”

Addmaster was awarded the People’s Choice award as voted for by more than 2,000 Mail on Sunday readers, who chose their favourite manufacturing businesses from the eight shortlisted companies.

Paul Morris, managing director of Addmaster, said: “We have always been passionate about making products in the Britain, even though people said we were mad, that is was unsustainable and that people weren’t bothered about innovation any more but wanted cheap products from the Far East.”
