The global market for flame-retardant chemicals was worth $4.1bn in 2008, according to a technical research report by BCC Research.
The US research group forecasts this to grow at a compound annual growth rate of 7% and increase to $6.1bn in 2014.
In volume terms, worldwide consumption of flame-retardant chemicals in 2008 was more than 3.2 billion pounds.
BCC estimates this volume to reach nearly 4.3 billion pounds worldwide by 2014, at an annual average growth rate of 4.9%.
It said that price increases for most products will have an impact on the average annual growth rate of the market’s sales.
The BCC report, called The Global Market for Flame-retardant Chemicals, covers additives and chemicals used in plastics, textiles, wood/paper, coatings/paper, coatings/construction and coatings/decorations.
