Strong performance from Huhtamaki during second quarter

Finland’s packaging specialist Huhtamaki has revealed a 23% year-on-year growth in operating profit to €49.3m in its second quarter. Sales for the same period were up 17% at €681m. The figures were the result of a growth in demand for consumer packaging.
“The group’s trading conditions remained stable throughout the reporting period despite increased general economic uncertainty during the second quarter,” the company said in a statement.
“Demand for consumer packaging was healthy during the reporting period but there were some signs of increased cautiousness towards the end of the second quarter, as customers avoided building inventories. Foreign currency movements had a favourable impact on the group’s net sales and earnings.”
Around half of the firm’s Q2 sales growth was generated by businesses acquired during the last 12 months, including Brazilian hygiene film manufacturer Prisma Pack Indústria de Filmes Técnicos e Embalagens.
Looking ahead, Huhtamaki said that trading conditions will remain largely stable and that net sales growth will continue.
