RRP is a fast-growing segment of the packaging market and researchers Pira International forecasts demand is likely to grow more than 40% by 2016, when it will reach 27 million tonnes.
While it is dominated by corrugated board plastic has grown in importance to around 24% of the market, due to its structural integrity.
Linpac’s new range has been developed to “help retailers run their stores with greater ease and efficiency”, said Joanna Stephenson, vice president of innovation at the firm.
“The growing trend towards shelf ready or retail ready packaging solutions has emerged due to cost down initiatives at the retailer level.
"RRP enables retailers to achieve significant cost savings by reducing labour costs, improving productivity and reducing ‘out-of-stock’ situations.”
Stephenson said RRP was already quite well established in Northern Europe “and the idea is starting to take off elsewhere too”.
Rigid plastic RRP solutions had a “greater level of flexibility, giving better impact absorption and an overall more structurally sound package”, she added.
