Versatile is the name of a PVC tile product developed by Patterson & Rothwell (P&R), which the company says withstood a 3 tonne load in tests – the average weight of an Asian elephant.
The Versatile is a 500mm x 6mm interlocking floor tile which can be used in a variety of industrial and commercial uses, including gyms, hospitals and schools, due to its durability, anti-slip qualities and chemical resistance.
The registered design for the interlocking mechanism means 10 square metres of the tiles can be fitted in just six minutes.
Dave Bowden, sales and marketing manager at Oldham-based P&R, said: “We initially manufactured the tooling and parts to create bespoke floor tiles as a solution for our own new 135,000 square foot factory. We quickly realised there was demand from outside for more choice in flooring and so we made Versatile widely available.”
P&R said its in-house tool room commissions more than 65 injection mould tools which are covered by the company's 10-year warranty.
