Injection moulder and toolmaker Patterson & Rothwell Ltd, based near Manchester, has installed an additional AgieCharmilles E 600 EDM machine.
The new purchase was part of a combined £2.5m investment made over 2018 which included injection moulding presses, robotics, software, training, logistics equipment and human resources management.
P&R made the investments to maintain lead times based on new customer orders. The company serves a range of industries, including automotive, electrical, construction, lighting, medical and food and beverage. P&R operates 68 mould presses, ranging from 50 to 1,100 tonnes and processing more than 20 material compounds.
Speaking about the new purchase, sales and marketing manager, Dave Bowden, said: “The new Agie is one of the first to be installed in the country and we can spark quicker for longer, more accurately and more efficiently for our customers.”
The EDM supports continuous optimisation with each impulse, reducing electrode wear on fine finishes. Process control takes a fraction of a second, resulting in a homogenous surface finish. The high-power generator has a 140A maximum output.
