Following the launch of the Twist-Loc product earlier this year, Charpak has announced the first commercial use of the innovative packaging solution.
Waitrose & Partners is the first UK supermarket to launch a product range using the new packaging.
Twist-Loc features a mechanism on the lid which indicates any tampering. Further, the locking mechanism is also easier to use than previous designs requiring a tough plastic tab to be removed before opening.
The pack is made from 90% recycled materials and is itself fully recyclable. Each unit is 3.5g lighter than previous designs, saving up to 14.6 tonnes of plastic each year.
The tubs can be recycled and/or reused by the customer.
The Twist-Loc range will be used to package a series of sweet treats at Waitrose stores, including mini bite flapjacks, chocolate mini rolls and cornflake cluster bites.
Since being launched, Waitrose has recorded a 16% increase in sales of the treats, with customers reacting positively to the new design.
Based in Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire, Charpak is a specialist design and packaging manufacturing company.
Charpak and the Twist-Loc packaging solution were featured in the May/June issue of PRW.
