Furniture designer and manufacturer Herman Miller has installed two new Engel plastic injection moulding machines.
Specifically, the Melksham, Wiltshire-based furniture specialist has installed two Victory 650/120 TECH tie bar-less machines.
The machines were specified due to the necessity to reduce down time through quick mould tool changeover times.
The Victory machines further offer low energy consumption, low noise, a side-loading option and magnetic clamping.
Martin Waller, head of engineering at Herman Miller, said: “The tier bar-less machines offered us the required platen size within a reduced footprint of the machine. Engel understood what we required from the machines and the unique aspects of our process, delivering a completely integrated system as one package.”
This is the first time that Herman Miller has performed moulding operations in the UK. Adding the machines has allowed the company to reduce the mount of stock components they hold, freeing up warehouse space and reducing shipping costs.
Waller added: “The Engel machines have enabled us to respond in an agile way to any change in production demands. By being able to act more quickly, we are able to respond faster to customer orders.”
