Houston-based Ascend Performance Materials is to reveal a series of new specialty polyamides at K 2019.
The K fair will be held from 16-23 October at Messe Dusseldorf.
Included in the new lineup is Vydyne XHT, a new portfolio of heat-stabilised polyamide 66 and copolymers. According to Ascend, the new material can withstand temperatures of up to 230°C.
While being highly heat resistant, XHT products do not sacrifice any of the processability, durability and mechanical properties associated with PA66.
“Consistent high heat performance is critical in under-the-hood applications to accommodate for various load, torque and speed conditions in engines,” said Vikram Gopal, Ascend’s senior vice president of technology.
He added: “We created Vydyne XHT to perform across a broad operating window for our customers, who are today limited to products with narrow operating windows and poor performance outside those windows.”
The VXT range further includes four glass-filled grades for use in automotive applications, including air coolers, integrated intake manifolds and exhaust gas recirculation.
While delivering favourable flow characteristics, XHT is regrindable, which allows excess material to be reprocessed for reuse.
In addition to Vydyne XHT, Ascend is planning to introduce the PA610 and PA612 long-chain polyamides. These products demonstrate low moisture absorption, together with high chemical and UV resistance.
These are also designed for automotive applications, such as battery seals, cable ties and fuel connectors. In addition, the products are suitable for sporting goods.
At K 2019, Ascend will be located in Hall 6, stand A07.
