Sheffield-based ULMA Packaging has completed installation of a new flow wrapping system at Wyke Farms, an award-winning cheese manufacturer.
The addition of the new wrapping system has increased daily output from four to 10 tonnes at the Wincanton, Somerset, cheesemaker.
ULMA Packaging supplied Wyke Farms with the horizontal FV35 FLW-VAC flow wrapper (HFFS), together with a TR300 shrink tunnel.
The line can produce up to 25 bags per minute, where the previous system could only deliver five bags in the same time.
The system uses a high barrier film which, in combination with the vacuum packing, delivers a product which has an improved appearance and extended shelf life.
ULMA Packaging’s business manager for machine sales, James Couldwell, said: “When automating the vacuum pack house, cheesemakers need to consult suppliers about flexible and competitive solutions that suit all types of products.”
ULMA Packaging UK offers equipment to support packing of various dairy products, including cheese blocks, grated cheese and cheese slices, through to soft cheeses.
